Alternative Investments

An alternative investment does not fall into one of the conventional equity/income/cash categories of investment. Private equity or venture capital, hedge funds, Real estate, and other tangible assets are all instances of alternative investments. Most alternative investments are unregulated by the SEC and tend to be slightly illiquid.

Investing in venture capital funds is inherently risky and illiquid. It involves a high degree of risk and is suitable only for sophisticated and qualified investors.
